Hip to be Square

Image
Hip to be Square Drawing these tiny, 2” square grids is becoming something I could likely do in my sleep. Deciding to try my fresh new stencils and stencil brush, I started filling in the grid with black acrylic paint. I overshot a couple, but who really cares? It’s just my journal. I had all of these leftover paints from yesterday stored on a damp palette in a lidded Tupperware container, so color was pre-determined. I failed to consider the opacity of these colors, which was painfully obvious the minute the brush touched the paper. Lesson learned. The title struck like a lightening bolt. Remember that song from Huey Lewis & the News? I’m singing it right now.

Color Mixing

Image
Color Mixing I am now realizing how easy it is to mix the colors I need from just my basic primaries instead of buying tubes of paint in those specific colors. This is an interesting palette of colors - warm earth tones punctuated by that minty light aqua. I’m having fun with the frames around individual collages .

Hinky Pinky

Hinky Pinky It’s funny how titles circle around in my head as I’m creating these collage grids. This one almost drove me crazy. I could just hear the words chasing me and taunting me. Like a playground bully. How could an annoying little rhyme that was so cutesy and cheesy be so irritating? Anyway, this cotton candy color palette is SO not my usual style, but it was kinda fun to play with if I ignored the bully in my head.

Rainbows and Unicorns

Rainbows and Unicorns My recent purchase of soft-colored Posca markers stored in a nearby drawer screamed at me,”Let us out! Use us.” So I did. This color palette is so far out of my usual style that it felt fantastical and kinda magical. Hence the title. Like fun child’s play.

Subtext

Image
Subtext subtext - an implicit or metaphorical meaning, hidden meaning, what exists “ between the lines” In this collage grid, the meaning of text cut from magazines is hidden in two ways - cut in half and sandwiched “between the lines” of collage fodder. Literally.
