Intuitive Floral

 Intuitive Floral

Another painting class; more lessons learned. This workshop, taught by Mary Price, took a long time, but every moment of it was enjoyable and informative. My art table was overflowing with tubes of paint, mediums, brushes, and so many mark-making gadgets.

I had intended to take photos of my process along the way so that I would remember how to create this style of painting and all the little tricks I learned. I started out well, but once again, I got wrapped up in the moment and forgot to snap photos. Again, layers upon layers.

Layer one: Floral(ish) shapes in magenta, orange, and yellow. Just play.

Layer two: Add green acrylic ink with dropper and then “comb” out some leaves.

Layer three: Add floral shapes in turquoise.

Layer four: Mimic broader outlines in phthalo blue (red shade).

Layer five: New technique - very cool. Glazing. Mix magenta acrylic paint with medium in 1/3 to 2/3 ratio. The lesson called for gloss medium; I only had matte medium.  Gloss would have worked better, so there is another art store shopping trip in my future. Spread around the piece to create depth.

Final play: forgot to take photos. Learned to make palm-like leaves with tip edge of foam brush. Used cut up credit card to make small lines. Brought out the paint markers for dots. All fun and intuitive play. Gotta say that removing the tape for the big reveal is always a treat.  Will try this one again!
