Art Soul Gathering 2024

 Art Soul Gathering 2024

This mystical and magical art workshop celebrating Mother Nature and the Divine Feminine is hosted by Ida Andersen Lang, an artist from Denmark. 12 days of art (Aug. 29-Sept. 9) with two artists featured each day. Such an interesting variety of instructors and styles, some very much out of my comfort zone. But I’m going to try giving them all a try.

Tracy Weinzaphl - “Pocket Full of Sunshine” - gessoed mixed media paper, acrylic, Posca pen, ink , found text, buttons

Karen Campbell - “Dolphin Dreams” - toned paper (thanks, Dad), markers, Posca pen, colored pencil, charcoal pencil. Drawing is completely out of my comfort zone, but Karen’s instruction was excellent. I’m happy with the resulting project.

Ivy Newport - “Blooming Within” - lots of layers here: acrylic, charcoal pencils, colored pencils, Posca pens. This one took forever, but I like the gentleness of it. May we all bloom from within.

Melanie Rivers - “Art is Medicine”
It is indeed, Melanie. Presenting “Dance of the Dragonfly.” Gessoed cardboard with an application of burlap and crackle paste

Then another layer of gesso and journaling in the wet paint contemplating the delicacy and gossamered wings of the dragonfly and its flight of freedom. (Forgot to take a photo of that step and all the remaining steps in the process.) What seemed like endless painting details and nearly 5 hours later, I stopped working on it. Yes, there are places where there is still work needed, but I have learned that I have limited tolerance for endless corrections and additions. I am learning that I enjoy more intuitive, free-flowing painting, but I attempted it, at least.

Eulalia Mejia - “Owl Companion” - Negative painting with acrylics, Posca pen, and collage. The owl reminds us that wisdom from all of life’s experiences, both positive and negative, resides in us.

Tamara LaPorte - “Nature’s Whispers” - watercolor, Posca pens, Neocolor 2 crayons, fineliner

Shilpa Lalit -  “Peaceful Flowers and Dewdrops” - acrylic on mixed media paper. I had planned to paint on canvas as instructed but instead opted for just mixed media paper. Nothing worked as planned, so I just adapted and moved forward.

And that brings this workshop to a close. These were all way more time-intensive than I had planned, and I feel slightly burned out. The rest were portrait-focused and not really my thing. Fun week, though.
